A monthly speaker series that features a rotation of visual artists that visit schools around the country and share their personal stories and artistic journey with students in the classroom.. Currently we have partnered with Central Gwinnett High School's Fine Arts Academy in Lawrenceville, GA to pilot this program.
A monthly event geared toward establishing connections and discussions; by, with and for creatives of color. Each month a theme is given and Creative Milieu begins the conversation by blogging weekly about the theme through the lens of our 4 portfolios (Art, culture, policy & community) and then ultimately a local speaker is chosen to present his or her idea about the theme at a locally own black business in front of an audience of fellow creative professionals of color.
COMING DECEMBER 2016- Black Exodus is an annual trip of Black creatives descending on Miami, every first week of December, as a collective to the art world's sought after event, Art Basel Miami Beach. We combine resources and our presence in numbers to celebrate and promote the representation of the creative influence and achievements of artists of color. This is an all inclusive trip that connects black creatives from all over the world to build and establish relationships in the global art scene. During the "Exodus" we enjoy the following as a group:
- Various VIP Miami Art Fair admission
- Private Beach Parties
- Lecture Series & Panel Discussions
- Art Cultural Tours
- And the freedom to be unapologetically BLACK!
Details and pricing for our December 2016 trip will be posted this Summer. Meanwhile, interested individuals can contact the program coordinator, Jeremiah Ojo at email@example.com
Capture & Connect
Inspiring youth’s creative confidence by enhancing interpersonal skills through the use of visual arts
Capture and Connect empowers youth (ages 13-19) and youth-serving organizations by providing a creative platform to learn and enhance interpersonal skills through use of digital photography. Young people want to know that their own story and perspective on life is meaningful and valuable. Capture and Connect uses the storytelling power of photography to help young people develop skills and attitudes to express themselves effectively. Many young people struggle with other art forms and have difficulty expressing themselves verbally or in writing but when you put a camera in their hand, each student turns into an artists and develops a visual voice. Photography is fun to learn about. Skills can build quickly for anyone who works at it and they can create inspiring images that help them better communicate.
Our goal is not merely to train our students as photographers; we want to help them see their lives and the world differently and be able to effectively communicate what they see and feel. We do this through a 10-week program that takes a student from imagining an idea to executing and connecting it with other students, with like-minded goals and aspirations. Our curriculum, along with photography basic principles, places emphasis on personal and interpersonal strategies for understanding, appreciating, and managing communication skills. The Capture & Connect program is broken down into three elements of interpersonal development: Psycho-social, Communication and Technical skills. We evaluate those elements through a four step road-map where students will learn how to
• IMAGINE more for themselves
• CREATE an action plan on how to achieve more
• CAPTURE their unique story with a camera
• CONNECT everything they learn to themselves and to the world
